First wash out the coffee stains from their favorite mug, make it as clean as possible.
Pour milk from the carton; the same brand you both bought together, years ago,
from the corner bodega where you first met, smiling when your fingers touched, reaching for the same carton.
Then add sugar to ease the bitterness of the coffee, the harshness that may come, soothe the flavor, and have it balanced to a comfortable full body taste.
And then say, the magic three words over the steam,
